Hello again! It's been raining so much lately. It amuses me that whenever I can't take photos outside because of poor weather I get super creative and inspired. We have a cute little climbing rose bush and it's finally bloomed! I wanted to head outside to photograph it so badly but I had to wait days until the rain stopped. I was able to run out to snap a few photos before being rushed inside once again because it started drizzling. I think I got some decent photos, though! I want to take some more next week. Hopefully the weather will allow it!
I absolutely love looking at macro photos of insects. I'd love to start taking my own. My issue: I am deathly afraid of anything creepy and crawly. Basically, if it has six or more legs and an exoskeleton, I'd like to be nowhere near it. Even when I see a harmless fly coming my way, I duck and cover. I'd like to get over this fear enough that I can comfortably take photos of bugs without having a near panic attack. The only way to do this is to gradually expose myself to these things I am afraid of. It's scary, and may seem silly to some, but hopefully I can get over this!
To reflect these thoughts, my photos for today include one of a dreaded buggo! It was some sort of flying... thing? I have no clue what it actually is called. It was flying all around me, scaring me half to death when it finally took a rest on some burs. He seemed to be content so I quickly snapped a few photos and proceeded to run away before he could come flying after me. 😉
Hello there! It has been raining almost nonstop all week. It's let the temperature cool down a bit to a comfortable level, and it's brought out some little friends! I have so many snail photos I've taken in the past week- expect to see some more soon!
Isn't this little guy the absolute cutest? I love snails so much. Their little antennae always get me 😍 These snails were pretty fun to free lens- but also a challenge. They're so tiny and I have horrible balance, so squatting and trying to keep my camera steady enough to free lens was pretty difficult. I think this set of photos turned out quite nice regardless!
I've always loved looking at beautiful examples of portrait photography, but I've never had any opportunities to practice it myself. I know very little about formally photographing people. My family members and friends dislike having their photo taken. I've never really felt confident enough to practice portrait photography on myself. I also dislike having my photo taken, and even though I sort of know what I'm doing it's a struggle for me to take pictures of myself and not feel disappointed in the result.
Well, I want to change this. I really want to improve and by taking photos of myself it will help my photography skills as well as my self esteem. If you told me, at thirteen, that I'd still have trouble loving myself when I'm going on twenty, I probably wouldn't believe you. Growing up, I always felt hopeful because I believed I would outgrow my insecurities. This did in fact happen in some cases, but overall I am the same insecure little girl I was in my preteen and teenage years. I've been neglecting a lot of aspects of loving myself and it's time to change a few things in my life.
These two photos, although sort of obscure, represent small steps in my journey of self-love. I hope to improve in more than just my photography abilities during this adventure.
I know I keep posting similar things, but I have been experimenting with editing recently and I just feel like sharing, no matter how repetitive my shots are at the moment. I hope you enjoy a different look at these adorable pear blossoms. :)
Right now, I have to keep taking photos of the same few areas. The few things that have bloomed are doing well, but everything else is taking its sweet time to open up to spring. It will be worth the wait though, I'm sure!
Today I have for you a collection of very similar photos from earlier this week. It's a gloomy rainy day today so I'll be spending the day editing some photos and videos, bullet-journaling, and enjoying some Netflix. :) Have a great Friday everyone!
Hello again! Today I have for you a collection of photos I took the other day. I have an adorable ornamental pear tree in my back yard and it's finally blooming. The flowers are sparse and everything surrounding the tree is still 50 shades of beige, but the flowers looked cute nonetheless! I also have included a few other photos of trees and mushrooms. I thought they looked nice with the photos of the pear blossoms ♥
Hello again! Today I have for you a few photos I took the other day. I decided to experiment with free lensing again and these are the results. I'm still learning and figuring out how to edit these photos, but I think they turned out nice! And look at those light leaks! I love that I can produce them on my own now (I used to edit in light leaks before I knew about free lensing). I just love the raspberry color of the ones I captured here.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy this photo duo and stop by again soon! Have a great day!
I recently downloaded Photoshop and I've been playing around with different editing looks and what-not. I have a lot to learn, but it's fun and I look forward to improving! Here is a photo duo that I edited recently. They're old photos- taken over a year ago. I think they look a bit like stills from a movie. I like this look and hope I can recreate it again!
(Side note: my hair was so red! I remember people telling me it was but I just couldn't see it myself. Looking at the photo now I see how red it really was. I miss it!)
Ah, once again the trees were tricked into budding, only to be frozen overnight by the cold and windy weather. Here is a small collection of photos from last week, when the red bud tree in my backyard began to grow. Don't the pink buds make a beautiful bokeh? ♥
For these photos I experimented with free lensing, or lens whacking. For anyone who may not know, lens whacking is a photography technique where the lens is detached from the body of the camera and tilted form side to side to create a soft focus. It's a cheap alternative to expensive tilt-shift lenses that give very similar effects. I love the way free lensed photos look. I really want to practice more with this technique. :)
Hey there! As I said in the previous post, everything is still brown and dull outside. There are very few lush and colorful things to photograph which makes getting outside with my camera a bit of a struggle. It's difficult to stay motivated when everything is brown and dead.
Regardless, I have a few photos of some... weed things? I'm not sure if they're just overgrowth or an actual plant, haha. Oh well. I hope some flowers grow soon! Thanks for stopping by!
Hello again! Today I'd like to share with you some photos I took a few days ago. The weather here has been like a roller coaster- 30 degrees one day and 78 the next, only to fall back down to near freezing the following day. I don't mind the bipolar weather, but unfortunately the poor plants are super confused. Things grow and then wither within a few days. I've been searching for something pretty and green to photograph but so far nothing survives the cold nights. Oh well, I'll make do with what I can until spring is in full swing :)
Hello there! My name is Simone and I'm going to attempt to keep up a photography blog. :) I've tried this so many times before and I can never keep up with it. I tend to lose motivation easily and give up, usually abandoning my blog within a month or so. Recently I've been on an organizational kick- I want to keep track of things, check chores off my to-do lists, and generally keep myself busy. I have a horribly bad habit of becoming lazy and unmotivated which leaves me feeling depressed. I'll admit I have a pessimistic personality, and it seems like keeping my mind and body occupied is the only solution to this.
Anyway, a bit about myself and my photography :)
My name is Simone and I'm a 19 year old city-girl-gone-country. I lived in the city for the greater part of my life before I moved to the southern United States in 2013. I've always loved photography and I've been self-taught since 2008. I tend to focus more on macro/diorama photography mostly, but recently I've been jumping out of my comfort zone to experiment with other subject matter. It's a passion of mine- when a camera is in my hands anywhere can feel like home.
This blog is mostly going to consist of my photography (although I may dabble in some other random stuff from time to time). I want to share my work somewhere, and since my Flickr account has been strictly for my diorama photography since 2009 I've decided to branch out and share my other work here!
I hope that in sharing my photography here on the internet I will gain the motivation I need to continue to improve and refine my skills! I also hope that someone somewhere can enjoy the images I take and maybe be inspired to take their own. :) Thanks for stopping by and reading my new blog- I hope to see you again soon!
